Section 12– Victim can move an application to the police or Magistrate seeking reliefs enumerated in the Act.

Section 17 – Right o reside in shared household.

Section 18 – Protection orders so that no harm is caused to victim.

Section 19 – Residence orders for habitation of victim.

Section 20 – Monetary reliefs for maintenance upkeep of wife and children.

Section 21 – Custody orders for keeping the child can also be granted.

Section 22 – Compensation may also be sought for damages and loss suffered.

Section 23 – Power to grant interim & ex-parte orders in all the above reliefs.

Section 31 – Penalty for breach of protection order may bring one year jail or 20k fine.

Along with DV complaint, one can also file criminal complaint constituting Cruelty covered under section (u/s) 498A/406 IPC, Maintenance u/s 125 CrPC, Divorce u/s 13 of Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, u/s 4 of Dowry Prohibition Act & other offences as per law.
