First the marriage should happen then only protection and registration can happen. Court marriage being the only option where notice is put out to general public for objections in 30 days. If no objection then marriage is solemnized otherwise objections are dealt first. In rare cases, court marriage permission can also be refused depending on the nature of objections.

Process
1 Marriage- Get married anywhere. Be it a temple or gurudwara. Get yourself photographed nicely with dear ones who can be your witnesses later. Don’t forget to collect the certificate from these institutions as proof of your marriage to be used later for registering marriage in your Tehsil.
2 Protection– First and foremost. Marriage is done but family is after the life of boy and girl and in cases family of an individual who was in support of marital tie. The best legal recourse is to file protection petition/case in High Court Chandigarh for Punjab and Haryana & UT. District Courts of Chandigarh Panchkula Mohali Derabassi and Kharar can entertain such petitions for local couples but for others, High Court is apt. Directions are issued on the same day not to threat , force or harm couple. Thus a huge sigh of relief to newly- wed husband and wife from stress and tension and most importantly freedom from fear of being killed.

3 Registration – Then comes the Registration which doesn’t ensure any police protection from relatives nor from their families. It is done just for the legal purposes as a valid proof of marriage. It is also beneficial for visa purposes, pension, passport, insurance claims, death benefits, PF, Gratuity etc. At least you are free from many rounds of struggle to government offices. In fact now it is compulsory to register your marriage as per new amendment to the law. It is a must to have thing.
4 Court Marriage- The last thing to do would be a court marriage if your parents support your cause. If the families are against go for temple or Gurudwara marriage. Never for a court would marriage as objections are invited from General Public within 30 days and your families will be the first one to raise objection. So avoid it. After 30 days, be present on the date chosen before the marriage registrar with three witnesses and get married. A vow will be taken and finally you will be pronounced as husband-wife. Yes finally. Almost a 45-60 days task. Within a week you can expect court marriage certificate and on the same get your marriage registered. So court marriages are not automatically registered but definitely registered faster than other usual marriages but it’s a one more step to towards the finishing task.

The point is to check the flexibility levels and what’s most important to the couple now , after an year, two years, 5 years, 10 years and generally life. 5 My last and favourite. Never be too serious in life about your marriage. It’s all evolution. People change with time , commit mistakes, forget things, start ignoring, priorities change, family members treat differently, less support at times , time constraints, frustration from job, business failure and so many other things. There will be thousand reasons to leave but just one for today that brought you to this post to hang on.
