HIGH COURT NOTICE TO CBI ON PLEA ALLEGING SLOW PACE OF PROBE

Mata Chand Kaur (88), wife of the former sect head late Satguru Jagjit Singh, was shot dead on April 4, 2016 by two unidentified bike-borne men at Bhaini Sahib, headquarters of the Namdharis sect near Ludhiana. Initially, the probe was conducted by a special investigation team (SIT) of Punjab Police, which failed to make any headway. Later, CBI registered an FIR on January 9, 2017.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has put Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on notice on a plea alleging slow pace of probe into the murder of Namdharis sect matriarch, Chand Kaur.

FACTS:

  1. Mata Chand Kaur was shot dead on April 4, 2016.
  2. The murder had taken place near Ludhiana, Punjab.
  3. Firstly, the case being investigated by the Special investigation team (SIT) Punjab.
  4. On January 9, 2017 CBI registered an FIR after the SIT, Punjab failed to lead.
  5. The CBI had made the very first arrest in this case.
  6. CBI, secured the custody of Palwinder Singh alias Dimple.

ISSUES:

The issue in the present case is that since the murder case has happened, both the SIT, Punjab and CBI has failed to make arrests. Primarily the case was reported with SIT on its failure, a FIR was registered by CBI. It took CBI 3 years since the incident to make arrest of one Dimple,ormer driver of Thakur Dalip Singh, the head of Sirsa-based rival faction of Namdharis, in September 2019.

One Gursev Singh, resident of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, had filed a plea before the Hon,ble HC, Chandigarh. Alleging slow pace of probe in the present case by CBI.

A bench headed by justice Arvind Singh Sangwan acted on the plea of Gursev Singh, issued a notice to the central bureau of investigation CBI.
